As of this writing COPS has sponsored two bills this session. One, AB 988, authored by Assembly Member Charles Calderon, D-Whittier, addresses law enforcement training for Homeland Security. Another bill AB 1029, authored by Assembly Member Anna Caballero, D-Salinas would allow education grants for training of at-risk and disadvantage youth for careers in criminal justice and law enforcement.
As you peruse our agenda you will find legislation dealing with crimes against children, sex offender registration, internet crimes, workers compensation, crimes for using weapons, and other issues.
It is expected this agenda will increase as new bills are released. We are working with authors and other police agencies and educational groups on gang legislation and education legislation which should be posted soon.
