Each year
the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs (COPS) reaches out
to hundreds of thousands of Californians urging them to "Don't Drink
and Drive". In addition, COPS helps schools in California to educate
students on the dangers of driving under the influence. COPS applauds
MADD and other groups who work tirelessly to educate the public and law
enforcement on one of the top public safety problems.

In 2004, nearly 17,000 people lost their lives in alcohol related accidents.
Approximately
1.5 million drivers were arrested in 2002 for driving under the
influence of alcohol or narcotics. This is an arrest rate of 1 for
every 130 licensed drivers in the United States.
