Santa Cruz Officers Honored After Rescuing Family

It could have been one of the most tragic car crashes in Santa Cruz County history. Instead, two Santa Cruz police officers and a sheriff's deputy who had been chasing the parolee broke into the smoky vehicle and pulled the family to safety, just seconds before the van turned into a fireball.

2006 California Peace Officers Memorial

On Friday, May 5, 2006, the 30th Annual California Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony was held in remembrance of 20 peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The procession from the State Capitol to the California Peace Officers' Memorial Monument across the street was led by a riderless horse signifying the fallen officers.
